Item Description
First is a 1-5/16" thin embossed brass circular piece with at large old spot of solder on reverse holding a vertical stickpin. Embossed design displays an eagle surrounded by text "J & E Parkers Patd Feb 7, 1860." This piece relates to a man by the name of Charles Parker who in 1827 began making pewter buttons. Over the years his products and occupations changed but eventually he was joined by his brothers and in 1860 the firm took on the name shown on this piece. The firm was most well known for their hanging lamps but also for their famous shotguns as well as hinges, spectacles, match safes, coffee mills and a multitude of other items. This piece has two 1/8" rough edges on its extreme left and right sides. These may have been brass tabs to affix the piece to something else but the stickpin added on the back is from very long ago. The second item is a 3-3/16x4-5/16" stiff card advertising the "Boston Lamp Co" and promoting the "Hyde Wick Adjuster" allowing flame adjustment so that the glass chimney of an oil lamp does not break. Card is Mint. Also see rare give-away cardboard oil lamp shade from the farm equipment maker William Deering item #914.
