Item Description
Balbo was minister of the Italian air force. He was welcomed to the United States in 1933 as a hero for commanding 24 sea planes across the Atlantic to the 1933 Chicago World's Fair. First button is 1.25" showing him in helmet and goggles with cigarette in mouth and surrounded by text "M&C. Italian Restaurant World's Fair 1933/Gen. Balbo." This button is NM displaying Mint. Second is 15/16" real photo button showing him. Reverse has 1/8" fragment of celluloid that did not tuck under the collet but the piece still displays NM as issued with just a few pinpoints of wear on the rim. Third reads "Welcome Gen. Italo Balbo." This has some tiny dots of tan scattered on the extreme rim edge. All three buttons are rare. See 1933 Expo Italian badge #713.
