Item Description
1.25" has surface oxidation over the reverse. No backpaper likely as issued. Above sponsors name "Wolff & Marx Men's Store" is a fence panel with eyeball staring through the knot-hole so that the slogan becomes "San Antonio (Knot-hole) Gang." San Antonio was one of the charter members of the Texas League in 1888 and has since hosted a number of other Texas League franchises. We estimate this button dates to around 1910-1920. In spite of being covered in extensive crazing and with some graytone on the orange rim the piece still displays very nicely and still with extremely high gloss. Among the earliest and certainly among the most graphic, use of the knot-hole concept.
