Auction #206 - Part II
Item numbers 1279 through 2976 in auction 206
Item Description
Quartz is an abundant mineral in the Earth's continental crust. There are many different varieties of quartz, several of which are semi-precious gemstones. Throughout the world, varieties of quartz have been, since antiquity, the most commonly used minerals in the making of jewelry and hardstone carvings. Those involved w/the New Age movement and students of the metaphysical claim these minerals hold healing properties. We are offering a smokey example, the effect being created by millions of years of residual radiation. Overall the cluster measures 7.75x9.75x7.5" tall and weighs just over 19.25 lbs. This example came from Galileia, a Brazilian municipality located in the northeast of the state of Minas Gerais, which is Portuguese for "general mine." During World War II, the United States mined this region for quartz for use in wartime electronic supplies. This cluster has many facets, which catch the light in the most appealing way. It's natural subtle smokey coloring makes for a nice display.
