Item Description
Complete set of seven 13x21" thin artboards featuring original pen and ink art by an unidentified S.M. Iger Studio comic book artist for "Strange Mysteries" issue #16 published by Superior/Dynamic Publications in 1953. Art was produced by the S.M. Iger Studio, one of the first comics "packagers" that produced outsourced comic-book material for publishers entering the new medium. Each page has "S.M. Iger" printed name at top left. Art is for story entitled "House Of The Doomed" and deals w/newlywed couple getting lost and ending up at Grimshaw Manor, only to witness Jeffrey Grimshaw kill his elderly mother and discover the hanging corpse of his sister in a closet before fleeing to the police. The next day, the policeman takes the couple out to the ruins of Grimshaw Manor, explaining that the event actually took place in 1865 and that they had witnessed the ghosts acting out the crimes. This pre-code horror comic is richly illustrated, w/bold, thick lines. Typical aging and handling wear, w/scattered editorial corrections/marks at margins. Fine overall.
