Item Description
Archival mat has 10x10.75”opening revealing daily panel cartoon in India ink dated 2-14, c.1930s. Top has hand inked title “ The Toonerville Trolley That Meets All The Trains”. Classic image has The Skipper being chased by angry woman w/broom in yard after he gave her a “Comic Valentine”. A dog and chickens run around in foreground and the trolley is in background w/passengers laughing. Art is boldly signed by creator “F.Fox” at lower right. Reverse side has light pencil sketch of same scene as done by Fox. Image area has lt. dust soil and minor rippling. Fine/VF. A prime example for display. Comes w/8.25x10.75” letter handwritten in ink dated 1889 from the artist's father Fontaine T. Fox, a noted Louisville attorney, and on his letterhead. Letter relates to Suffrage, noting “Politics Have Bankrupted Me”. Signed in full. Folds as mailed. Fine. Interesting pair to frame together.
