Item Description
1931. 7.75x9.75” aluminum frame has corners made of duralumin actually removed during airship’s construction. Original wood backing has applied paper “Facts” label noting photo was taken at the Goodyear Zeppelin dock at Akron, Ohio Oct. 21st for the airships flight to Lakehurst, N.J. and “The Akron Was Commissioned As A United States Navy Ship On October 27,1931”. Frame has lt. aging, reverse is a bit worn w/glue stains on one side and missing one small clip to hold backing in place. Fine. After flying successfully for 18 months the ship was lost in bad weather off New Jersey April 4, 1933, killing 73 of the 76 crew and passengers on board.
