Item numbers 1235 through 2949 in auction 207
Item Description
6x8.5x13-3/8" tall painted resin sculpt for Tyco Toys, Inc. telephone design. c. mid-1980s, for a phone that was never produced. Back portion of Odie's head and neck are removable as they would be in the final product, though handset is blank on underside. Tongue is a separate piece. Base underside has felt covering, though this has peeled away somewhat and original paint/color scheme codes are written in marker. Sculpt shows wear, w/one toe having .5" crack/dent and scattered paint cracks along leg lines. Neck and ears also have scattered hairlines. Couple paint flakes off handset and .5x1.25" area of paint missing at front base of one ear. Fine overall. Comes w/six Polaroid photos showing the sculpt in progress, including one w/sculptor and two w/Garfield phone. Unique. From the personal collection of Lee Volpe, Tyco Toy’s Manager, Director, and VP of New Product Development (1982–1994) who was involved from the beginning of the development of Dino-Riders, Garfield telephones and several other Tyco toys.
