Item Description
Heavy 9-1/8x13-1/8x7.5" deep wooden case contains 5.75x9.75" rubber mold for prototype of the famed polyurethane foam football invented and introduced in 1972 by Minnesota Vikings kicker Fred Cox. While the Nerf ball was introduced in 1969, the introduction of the football version quickly overshadowed its predecessor, lauded as "The Official Ball Of The NFL" in advertisements featuring Cox. The Nerf football was created by making a full-size football and then taking it to injection molders in the area. The prototype mold we are offering is one of the molds used by a company that was ultimately not chosen to produce the footballs. Mold case has scattered aging and wear and shows traces of the orange polyurethane foam used to make the footballs. Fine. The mold itself is Exc. Ball shown for example only, not included.
