In the spring and summer of 1932, 17,000 World War I veterans with families and affiliated groups totaling 43,000 marchers gathered in Washington to demand immediate cash payment for their promised bonuses desperately needed to ward off the effects of the economic depression. They chose the name to reflect the name of World War I’s American Expeditionary Force. The media called the protest the Bonus March. In this group of three buttons the smallest at 13/16” reads “Boost The Bonus.” This has lightly aged Bastian paper but the cello is clean and Exc. Next is a 7/8” with Phila. Badge paper with front text “I Am In Favor Of A Soldier’s Bonus.” The last piece, and the first we’ve seen, is a beautifully colored tinted 1.25” real photo reading “The Capitol Washington D.C.” Spring pin holds 2-7/8” pale blue ribbon. This has an ink stain at the upper left corner but otherwise only the slightest traces of age. This reads “B.E.F./1932/Washington D.C.” The button above the ribbon is Exc. and displays Mint.
