Auction #207 - Part II
Item numbers 1235 through 2949 in auction 207
Item Description
13x16.5x6.75" tall, 36.25 lb. rough cut specimen featuring several red inclusions. Bloodstone, also known as the mineral heliotrope, is a form of chalcedony (a translucent variety of quartz of various colors and waxy luster). The "classic" Bloodstone is green chalcedony w/red inclusions of iron oxide or red jasper as seen in the specimen we are offering. The red inclusions are supposed to resemble spots of blood, hence the name. This mineral is often used for carvings, as the red inclusions can be made to stand out from the surrounding rock, making for a vivid presentation. The side w/the most inclusions has had black outlines added around the inclusions. Still displays nicely and specimen will stand on its longest side for a nice display.
