Item Description
Exceptional tin litho toy is 4x7x8" tall and comes in original box. 1950s by Nomura, Japan. Box lid has light edge wear with pair of .5" tears, scattered pinpoint tan age spotting mostly only noticeable on two side panels that feature instructions. Box remains tight with great color and complete with cardboard insert. VF. The base of the toy features great images on all sides. Front depicts two control room operators initiating launch sequence. Other sides feature launch scene, overall image of launching area, screen showing rocket traveling through space with large word "Jupiter" below. On the top of the base is a 3-D control room operator seated in front of console with radar screen and next to him is the launching tower complete with pair of rockets with plastic bodies and rubber tips. Toy is activated by placing a rocket in the launching tower which causes the radar screen to flash, loud signal siren is produced and the operator's arms move as if manning the controls. Toy works but the rocket must be held down through the entire sequence until it is ready to be launched. Toy has some minute scattered paint nicks/scratches but remains totally bright and glossy. Exc. Very elaborate battery toy. From the Hake collection.
