Item Description
9" long mostly tin litho toy comes in original box. Early 1960s by Horikowa, Japan. Box has some light edge creases, one side panel has .5" surface paper rub. Box is VF. Toy is marked "Friendship 7" and based on the John Glenn mission launched February 20th, 1962. Visible through the clear plastic windows is a fully dimensional tin astronaut with detailed control panel behind him. Has working friction mechanism and as the capsule travels forward, the astronaut rotates 360° as if weightless in space. Also produces and engine noise. Sparks were to be visible coming from the rocket engine although flint is missing. One exhaust port has a minor 1/8" hairline only noticeable when viewed closely. Body of the toy has tiny scattered paint nicks. Exc. Great design.
