Item Description
Lot consists of three items. First is 3.75x6.5" envelope w/Tom Mix brand and Tom Mix - Straight Shooters return address. Postmarked Dec. 23, 1948. Addressed to contestant in Burbank, CA. Envelope shows some lt. wear and has some inking on front. Fine. Typed letter is dated Dec. 24, 1948. Portions read "Dear Mike: I Am Very Happy To Inform You That The Name Which You Suggested For My New Pony Was Selected By Our Judges As A Prize Winner. Although You Were Not Selected As The Grand Prize Winner, The Judges Felt That Your Entry Was So Unusual That They Are Awarding You A Monark Super DeLuxe Bicycle, Equipped With U.S. Royal Tires, Headlight And Built-In Horn And A Year's Fire And Theft Insurance. Sheriff Mike Shaw, Wash And All The Ralston Straight Shooters Join Me In Congratulating You On Your Fine Entry. Sincerely Curley Bradley - The Tom Mix Of Radio." Stamped signature of Bradley. Letter has some additional penciling/inking as well as handling wear w/tears at fold line edges. VG/Fine. Third item is 6.75x14" clipped newspaper ad detailing the contest and showing Tom Mix w/pony. Inked notations on ad. Ad has contest form removed and folded in half. Letter has been folded to fit envelope. VF. Rare.
