Auction #208 - Part II
Item numbers 1278 through 3040 in auction 208
Item Description
4x7x4" tall solid piece of Oregon Opal found in south-central Oregon that depicts two orange-colored salmon, one leaping in front of a reclining seal. While it may appear that the salmon and seal were carved separately and attached, this is not the case, as they were carved from a solid block, the opal's natural coloring adding to the piece's visual appeal as its natural vivid orange color adds to the appearance of the salmon against the unpolished base. The animals have been polished. The seal has a .25" chip to its lower back area, a natural flaking of the opal, and does not detract from the piece's visual display. Oregon is favorite for agates and Thundereggs (a nodule-like geological structure, similar to a geode, formed within a rhyolitic lava flow). It is quite rare to find a Thunderegg w/an opal interior as offered here.
