Item Description
Amethyst is a violet variety of quartz often used in jewelry. The name originates in Ancient Greece, where it was believed that the stone protected its owner from drunkenness. The ancient Greeks and Romans wore amethyst and made drinking vessels from it in the belief that it would prevent intoxication. It is one of several forms of quartz. Amethyst is also the traditional birthstone for February. We are offering a carving of a hedgehog that was carved from one solid piece, utilizing the natural points and facets of amethyst crystals to replicate the look of a hedgehog's spines. The amethyst crystals grew on an underlying layer of quartz and agate, providing the perfect palate for this unique gemstone carving. This specimen also exhibits an unusually rich and rare color that Uruguay is known for. The piece measures 2.75x5.75x1.75" tall overall and has inlaid eyes. Wonderful display w/great colors. Exc.
