5x7” hardcover copyright 1876 by A.K. Loring. Printed by Rockwell and Churchill Boston. Book is subtitled “Or, Gilbert Greyson’s Fortunes”, issued as fourth and final book in the “Brave and Bold Series”. 358 bw pages and four full page illustrations. Lt. bumps at cover corners and spine tips, minor color rubs along cover edges. Overall covers Fine, contents near Exc. Horatio Alger, Jr. (1832-1899) used a “rags to riches” formula in his stories. Brave, honest, and hard working young boys were aided along the way by wealthy benefactors in a 19th century version of “Good Guys Finish First”. Alger had some 100 books published in his lifetime. Historical and interesting.
