Item Description
3.5x5.75" type plate for the "Chapter IX" of Edgar Rice Burroughs' 1922 novel, "The Chessmen Of Mars," the fifth of his "Barsoom" series. The book was originally published by A.C. McClurg. Chapter title is "The Choice Of Tara" and references Tara, Princess of Helium and the daughter of Burroughs' John Carter and Dejah Thoris characters. As used for printing, text plate is in reverse. Plate has some denting at corners, likely from use, but remains clean and VF. Item was given to our consignor 30 years ago by Edgar Rice Burroughs' grandson, Danton Burroughs. An interesting item for the Burroughs completist. Book cover shown for reference only.
