Item Description
First is 13x15.5” ink and blue pencil on art board with May 24, 1976 date stamped on reverse. Cartoon is by “Yardley” but newspaper unknown. Pencil title at top “We’ll Be Smart To Keep The Evil Genie Bottled Up!” U.S. and U.S.S.R soldiers flank a clear bottle with “Middle East” below. Bottle holds an Arab holding a semitar with caption “The Potentials Of World War III.” Small crease line upper left corner. Very Fine. Second is 13.5x17.5” ink and zipatone dot pattern on art board dated for use in Detroit News Feb. 6, 1980 and signed by cartoonist Draper Hin. Margin also has his ink inscription “For Carl May – Draper Hin.” Pictured are two bound hostages while on wall is picture of Jimmy Carter. Man with automatic rifle and “QOM College” sweat shirt holds newspaper with headline "Soviet Buildup Continues! Ayatollah Backs Afgan Rebels.” Second man in “Terhran U.” sweatshirt says “Merciful Allah – You Don’t Think The Iman Would Draft Us?” To which first man replies “You Don’t Think He’s Crazy Do You?” Couple small paste overs as done by the artist. Mint as made. Comes with Hake’s COA.
