Item Description
7.5" bottom dia. 11.5" tall glazed ceramic jar and lid. Paint under glaze is entirely black accented in over the glaze white and red numeral "7" in title block. Reverse title block has "United States" in white lettering. c. 1962. Mercury-Atlas 6 (MA-6) was a manned spaceflight mission conducted by NASA. As part of Project Mercury, MA-6 was the successful first attempt by NASA to place an astronaut into orbit, launching Feb. 20, 1962. It made three orbits of the Earth, piloted by astronaut John Glenn, who became the first American to orbit the Earth. Accent paint shows wear and some aging but jar is structurally sound and Fine overall.
