Item Description
2.5x5.25" heavy aluminum frame w/embossed images of surveyor and frontier scout. Top has spring-operated slide bar. This is used in conjunction w/two different cardstock cards held in the device to tell the distances of "Familiar Objects" such as buildings, vehicles, etc. Complete w/both cards. While unmarked w/a character name, this is from 1952 and was tied in w/the Quaker cereal sponsorship of both Sgt. Preston and Gabby Hayes programs and was pictured on Preston-related Quaker cereal boxes. Comes w/original instruction sheet. The original mailing carton has "Distance Finder" address label w/typed recipient name/address and is missing .5" corner. Condition of the box is otherwise VF and the premium itself is NM. 2.5x3.5x1.75" deep hard plastic, battery-operated metal detector was 1952 Quaker premium. Marked "Zany Toys Ore Detector." Top center has foil sticker w/Sgt. Preston and Yukon King portrait and additional foil sticker around working compass has alphabet. Gauge appears at top beneath clear plastic window. Uncertain if it works as we've never found a working example of this very scarce premium. Exc. From the Tomart Archives and comes with COA signed by Tom Tumbusch and Ted Hake.
