Item Description
Levine's "Inaugural Medals" guide estimates 3000 of these were produced in bronze for various Inaugural Committee members. On this the ribbon is inscribed "Reception." The badge is 5-3/8" tall. At the top is a figural representation of the U.S. Capitol. Below is the ribbon joined to a second bronze piece reading "Inauguration March 4, 1897." This is then linked to a gorgeous chocolate bronze 1.75" medal with jugate portraits of McKinley and Hobart at the center all surrounded by individual panels naming each state. On the back of the piece the medal has a large depiction of the Great Seal of the United States flanked by ribbon designs naming the original thirteen colonies. Along the bottom rim edge is the name of the designer Davison. Back rim edge has pair of pin point nicks no more than 1/32" and the ribbon shows just very slight wear. Overall Exc. condition. Sen. Charles Dick Collection.
