Item Description
c. 1945. 10x12” sheet of animation paper has 6.75x9.5” lead and blue pencil image area drawn by Tom Oreb. He’s looking at Dali’s painting “The Persistence Of Memory” on easel as Dali stands next to him holding paint brushes w/a lamb chop on his shoulder and loaf of bread tied on his head. Caption in light red pencil at left reads “ Well- Salvador Ole Cat- I’m Afraid That I Don’t Quite Dig This Jive- - - - -“. The Disney studio was working on a project titled “Destino” based on Dali’s art at this time. The film was finally released in 2003. Sheet has dust soil and lt. creasing as stored. Image area is Fine. Tom Oreb (1913-1987) animated at Disney from 1937 to 1961, notably in Ward Kimball’s unit. Credits include “Pinocchio; Sleeping Beauty; Toot, Whistle, Plunk and Boom; 101 Dalmatians”. He did the art for the “Once Upon A Wintertime” Golden Book (based on a segment from “Melody Time”) and went on to do early animated TV commercials, worked w/Tex Avery on “Symphony In Slang”, UPA, and the “Dick Tracy Show” in 1961. Well drawn and funny.
