Item Description
1.25" with back paper naming W&H but with larger text offering additional examples of the button from "M. Devine 943 Mass. Avenue Indianapolis, Ind." This is sepia real photo button without dot pattern. His jacket area has some extremely tiny and light scuff lines at lower left but just showing in reflected light. Surface is just a hair concave. The breaker boy was typically a child or an elderly coal miner who could no longer go into the mine's because of age, disease or accident. The job was to separate the impurities from coal by hand. Button is c. 1905-1910 when the use of breaker boy's was gradually declining because of stricter child labor laws and enforcement of compulsory education laws. Scarce.
