Item Description
1" without backpaper likely as issued. Depicted is George Washington above a pair of crossed flags beneath the inscription "Mothers Pension League Of Ally. Co." Sophie Loeb was a child welfare advocate and social reformer. She secured a writing job with the Evening World newspaper in New York as a reporter and feature writer. She interviewed many widowed women forced to place their children in orphanages. This inspired her work for allocation of public funds for 'Widow's Pensions.' She was appointed to New York City's Child Welfare Board in 1915 but worked to organize similar committees throughout the country. Based on her writing at the time this button was likely issued by the Propaganda Committee of the Allegany Counties Mother's Pension League. NM displaying Mint. Only example we've seen.
