Item Description
First is 1.75" with metal back and bar pin. This shows an oil rig next to a small building and a wagon bed. Initials stand for the Odd Fellows Fraternal Group and the date is 1908. Perhaps coincidentally the date is the 50th anniversary of Edwin Drake's discovery of oil in Pennsylvania in 1858. This was also the same year a famous trial began between Standard Oil and the United States. Condition is Exc. and button displays Mint. Second is 7/8" showing gushing oil well with text "Bayou Oil Lands Co./Acre Owner." Reverse has back paper from Jens, Milwaukee and we learned in 1918 newspapers in the city were running advertisements promoting the purchase of oil land in Louisiana with phrases such as "Do It Now" and "Buy An Acre." NM displaying Mint.
