Item Description
This group of five pieces pre-date the invention of the celluloid button. Each features a printed paper illustration mounted in a tin frame with a narrow brass horizontal bar pin affixed to the reverse. We've seen this style button used in conjunction with the 1893 Columbian World's Fair. We've not seen any of these decorative pieces before. First is 1-5/8" circular showing a face with makeup. Next is 1-1/16" tall showing young girl holding a basket and with a young lamb by her side. The next three are each 1-11/16" tall showing a young woman with two of them in very elaborate hats pictured against gold backgrounds. Each of these three frames has a different decorative design. These are Exc. and display Mint. The one with the face has just the slightest loss of silver luster from the rim and just a little dustiness on the paper but it is still most attractive. A rare group of early badges.
