Item Description
2.25". Covered tin reverse with vertical pin. Reverse stamped by maker St. Louis Button Co. Button depicts large court house surrounded by a flame design. Button references catastrophic fire of June 19, 1900 that destroyed 45 buildings over 4.5 blocks in the cities central business district. The losses were the equivalent of $50 million today. Causalities included the supposedly fire proof county court house and dozens of retail establishments. The citizens made a determined and rapid recovery and to showcase the reborn downtown they held this event one year after the fire. The celebration included band concerts, parades and many circus-like midway acts under the direction of Frank Gaskill of the Cleveland Carnival Co. NM displaying Mint. Rare.
