Item Description
First is 1.25" with W&H/Miller back paper. Back paper has an old price in ink written at the top. The button depicts the "Rock Of Chickamauga." During this 1863 battle Thomas saved the Union Army from being completely routed. He also had decisive victories on Missionary Ridge and destroyed the army of Confederate General John Bell Hood at the Battle of Nashville. This post was named in his honor and reads "Geo. H. Thomas Post, Nov. 5, Dep't Of Ill." Also reads "Souvenir Of The 34th National Encampment G.A.R. Chicago, 1900." Tiniest bit of gray dotting along the extreme edge but barely showing. Glossy and NM. Second is gorgeous color 1.5" button showing an aged veteran in uniform holding hat and wreath by a grave marked by flowers and American flag. No back paper but curl carries name of maker Bastian and the piece is c.1905. Reverse collet has hairline indent mark. Celluloid remains totally clean.
