Item Description
This piece is 2.5" wide by 3.5" tall. Mounted to a long brass pin is a plush covered piece forming a bird's body with tiny bead eye accent and thin wire beak. The bird's wings and large tail are formed by die-cut embossed pieces of fabric with a feather pattern. Glued to the feather tips is an arched shape of celluloid with a four line verse "North And East, South And West,/Living Now In Peace And Rest;/To The Stars And Stripes We Bow/Against All Foes United Now." No maker name but reverse has "Pat. May 16, 1895." Only the most trivial traces of wear. Something of a miracle that this piece has survived for over 100 years. Sen. Charles Dick Collection. Only example we've seen.
