Item Description
The first ever filmstrip premium ring is this 1949 General Mills issue with adjustable brass bands with a top telescoping tube that opens two inches long. Brass frame on tube front has cut-out through which is insert 3-7/8" long filmstrip and then the film is viewed by looking into the opposite end while the ring is held to the light. Film is titled "U.S. Marines" and has various frames of military men and military action scenes. The film is Mint and ring has bright NM luster. Rarely offered as a complete unit. The success of the 1949 premium led to the Lone Ranger Cheerios Saddle Ring with film strip two years later. This 1951 high quality ring is designed as a saddle with lower portion in bright silver luster and a seat finished in brass. This slides off to reveal a frame holding a panel of material which glows in the dark. This example glows brightly after light exposure. Ring comes complete with four panel filmstrip 2.25" long with illustrations of the Lone Ranger plus him with Tonto and Silver. Essentially Mint. Pair.
