Item Description
First four buttons are from CBS radio children's show which ran very briefly June 27, 1932-July 29, 1932. Show was sponsored by Wheat And Rice Puffs cereal. The four 1-15/16" tin litho buttons in our top row have name "Pops Pirate Club" at the top and the four ranks of: 1st, 2nd, 3rd Mate and Captain. These are by Green Duck and feature designs of flintlocks, dagger, pirate flag and skull with cross bones. These four buttons come with three additional 2" cello buttons from "The Pirate Club" each featuring skull and cross bones motif with the following ranks of: 1st, 2nd, 3rd Mate. We know a Captain was also issued. What is not known is if these are related to the "Pops" series but they are of similar design and age. The cellos are by Bastian. Perhaps they came first and then were redesigned to include "Pops" when the lithos were produced in larger quantities. The lithos have some general paint wear including a few hairline scratches on "3rd Mate" but overall these grade Fine. The "Pirate Club" series has hairline crazes a couple of places and tiny sliver off bottom edge of "1st Mate." The "2nd Mate" is NM displaying Mint. The "3rd Mate" has pinpoint cello dot off lower right but rest displays Mint. Scarce and extremely early buttons produced for early radio children focused programming.
