Item Description
2013 marks the 30th anniversary of this landmark debut album, one of the most important and influential in the storied annals of Heavy Metal. What we are offering here is one of the most incredible and historic Metallica artifacts extant. The proof sheet is 12x24" and has been professionally double matted and framed using UV glass. This "Blue Line" is the final version of the artwork, once it was signed off on, the album covers were then printed. Prior to the album's release of July 25th, 1983 on Megaforce Records, this proof was signed by the band, in essence making it the first ever album cover art signed in the band's history. It was signed and extensively and personally inscribed (with humorous touches) to Harold Risch and his wife Shari. Harold was the mechanical layout designer for album covers as well as representing Megaforce Records for mechanical layout and design and printing of any and all Megaforce printed materials including but not limited to final films for ads in all advertising. In addition to this he acted as stage manager for Megaforce concert promotions with CraZed Management. The back cover art is signed (around and a bit on the band photo image) "Tanx For Everything Cliff Burton, Shari & Harold Thanx!! Kirk Hammett, Sharold & Harry Thanx For All! Lars Ulrich 1983, Many Thanx & Keep Givin' Em Hell!! James Hetfield." All signatures are big and bold. Sheet has some lt. handling wear as to be expected including some very faint crease lines, none of which are in any way offensive. Sheet overall Fine but displays Exc. as framed (minor wear to the frame itself). The proof sheet on its own is a one of a kind item, but the fact it is signed prior to the album's release and to an important figure in the band's and record label's history takes the item to another level entirely. Truly unique. "Hit The Lights" and let the bidding begin! Comes with COA's from Hake's and Harold Risch.
