Item Description
New Haven Clock Co. ©1935 King Features Syndicate Inc. 2-3/8x4.75x1" deep cardboard box has nice top lid graphics w/Rough House saying "In Time For Some Spinach" to which Popeye replies "Yam Always On Time Since I Got This Yere Watch" while looking at watch on wrist. Box has facsimile signature of Popeye creator Segar at lower left. Three side panels have additional images of Popeye w/Wimpy, Olive Oyl and John Sappo. Box is loose from back hinge so lid now lifts off rather than being attached. 4.5" edge split along front edge of box lid, which has aging and two pinpoint puncture marks not affecting art. Corners remain tight. VG overall. Die-cut cardboard insert (split but complete) holds watch w/original leather band. 1-1/8x1.25" chrome accent metal case has nice animated dial w/Popeye's arms for watch hands. Bkg. includes characters Wimpy, Olive Oyl, Ham Gravy and others. Bright luster on case. Bright, clean dial. Works. Exc. Wonderful graphics. A rare watch w/an even rarer box. Only the second boxed example we've offered in our 47 years.
