Auction #209 - Part I
Item numbers 1 through 1144 in auction 209
Item Description
5x8" oversized cabinet photo shows large group and 18 musicians wearing either face paint or elaborate masks. One clown holds a large drum that has "East Mudhook Drum Corps" and bears "1886" date. Another clown holds a sign aloft, but its text is illegible. Several children are seen standing around this bizarre-looking band, many w/rather serious looks on their faces, which seems appropriate given these clowns' slightly off-putting looks. Card has "Thompson" studio mark at lower left w/"Amesbury, Mass." name at lower right. Photo is evenly aged and cabinet mounting has some edge wear, though this does not detract from photo's appearance, which remains Exc. Truly bizarre.
