Item Description
1.25" dia. button features four real photo images of tennis legends Bill Tilden, Lester Stoefen, Ellsworth Vines and George Lott at the 12, 3, 6 and 9 o'clock positions. c. 1935. Tilden is often considered one of the greatest tennis players of all time, ranked as the World No. 1 player for seven years. He won 15 Majors, ten Grand Slams, the 1921 World Hard Court Championships and four Pro Slams. Stoefen won three Grand Slam doubles titles, 1934 Wimbledon Championships, 1933 and 1934 US National Championships. In 1934 he played for the US Davis Cup team. That same year he won the US Indoor Tennis Championship singles title. Vines was an American tennis champion of the 1930s, ranked the World No. 1 player or the co-No. 1 for four years in 1932, 1935-1937, and won Pro Slam titles on three different surfaces. Lott was an American tennis player and tennis coach who is mostly remembered as being one of the greatest doubles players of all time. He won the US title five times w/three different partners - John Hennessey in 1928, John Doeg in 1929 and 1930 and Les Stoefen in 1933 and 1934. Bottom of button has ribbon which holds 4" long miniature wooden tennis racket w/real strings. Exc. Rare and first we've seen in our 47 years.
