Item numbers 1 through 1144 in auction 209
Item Description
The American Political Items Collectors publication “The Keynoter” in the 1960s and 1970s was issued quarterly with the first page picturing items from a particular campaign and a brief history on the next page. Issues typically run 24 pages with photos and information on all types of presidential campaign and related items filling out the remaining pages, plus new member lists, information on fakes, mystery buttons identified, reprints of vintage campaign item advertisements and more. There were also special issues, some included here. The lot consists of two thick notebooks with the issues in order, a stack of issues in folders by year order, and special projects. As a complete run are the two notebooks beginning Winter 1966 (V5#4) through Summer, 1973 (V12#2). A group of the very earliest issues, with Chick Harris as editor, begins Fall, 1963 with Chick’s comment “It seems that this format for The Keynoter will be rather permanent as it has been so well received.” These early issues (more like 10-14 pages) are in a flexible cover notebook and run Fall, 1963 through Spring 1965. Issues in folders begin Spring, 1969 (V8) and run through Spring, 1976 (V15). There are 12 extra issues covering this time period that are mostly duplicates (about 1” thick) and two of these have a couple of clips, but this group extends the folder group by five issues (but not a run) to Spring, 1977. There are five special issues. The first is a list of Pres. And VP candidates 1789-1960, released in 1963 by an APIC committee that included many first generation members. Next is four pages from J. Harold Cobb on his GW inaugural button collection and conclusions. Next is a Hopefuls list 1789-1960 released Spring, 1965. There is also “Project 68” and “The Parker & Davis Project” all primarily composed of item photos. Minor typical age but only a couple clips in the few duplicate copies. A big pile of useful information, heavily illustrated.
