Item Description
There are three items from Humphrey’s Memorial Day Address at Gettysburg National Cemetery May 30, 1968 plus three items are signed and/or addressed to York newsman Harry McLaughlin. Both letters are on “ The Vice President” stationery and are 7x9”. First is dated May, 29, 1960. HHH thanks McLaughlin for his earlier letter and looks forward to seeing him at the Gettysburg event. Letter has 1 fold, .25” hairline of paper clip stain. Second letter is dated June 7, 1968 and Humphrey again thanks McLaughlin for the follow up letter and adds “I Was Happy To Autograph The Enclosed Photograph For Your Collection.” Both letters are signed and Exc. The third item is the 8x10” signed photo mentioned in the second letter. It is inscribed “To Harry J. McLaughlin/With Best Wishes/Hubert H. Humphrey.” A few handling creases at top, 1 corner crease and old masking tape on back edges. All three of these signed items come with Hake's COA and JSA COA. The lot also includes a four page 6x9” folded program from the Gettysburg event and lists “The Honorable Hubert H. Humphrey/Vice-President Of The Untied States" as address speaker. Handling creases. Fine. Next is 11 page 8.5x11” Schedule of Events titled “Visit Of/Vice President Hubert H. Humphrey/Memorial Day Exercises/Gettysburg, Pennsylvania/Thursday May, 30, 1968.” A complete listing of the day’s exercises including an alternate schedule in the event of “Inclement Weather.” Bottom of first page is missing 2x5” area on which nothing was printed. Holes at top left from staple removal. Last is a three page 8.5x14” press release dated May 31, 1968 (the day after the event) of Humphrey’s speech. First page is on “Office Of The Vice President” stationery. Folded. Staple removed. VF. An extensive group of six items documenting HHH’s campaign visit. From the Harry J. McLaughlin Collection.
