Item Description
Hake #224. 1-1/8" tall beautifully designed brass eagle viewed from above as if it is flying. While the item displays very well it has three condition issues. A tiny tab on the back allows the eagle's wings to spring open. The right wing opens properly but there is no tension on the spring for the left wing and that must be opened manually. There should be a pair of real paper photos on the wings depicting McKinley and Hobart and these are missing. In the eagle's beak is a tiny brass bug that once had silver flashing but as with most examples vast majority of this has evaporated over the years. In addition, on the underside, the pin is intact but a small brass loop to hold its tip is missing. This is Hake #3103 with 2004 guide value of $850.00 and our last complete example in Auction #195 realized over $900.00. Still a great mechanical display piece. Sen. Charles Dick Collection.
