Item Description
1.25" possibly issued at City College of New York or by New York Teachers Union. Rest of the text on this 1.25" button reads "Save Our Schools/Repeal Feinberg-Law." Button is from 'Red Scare' era which saw the conviction of Alger Hiss, the execution of the Rosenberg's, and the efforts of Sen. Joseph McCarthy to discover Communists in the U.S. government. This New York statute banded from teaching anyone who called for the over throw of the government, specifically aimed at Communists. The Supreme Court upheld this law March 3, 1952. Justices Douglas, Black and Frankfurter dissented with Frankfurter arguing the statue "Turns The School System Into A Spying Project." Couple of spots and streaks of air under the celluloid but no stain and full gloss. Only example we've seen.
