Auction #209 - Part I
Item numbers 1 through 1144 in auction 209
Item Description
First is 1.75" showing handcuffed wrist with one hand showing the victory gesture. Likely from April 30, 1971 when 2,000 people protested at the Justice Department in Washington D.C. in a demonstration organized by the "Harrisburg Defense" committee to support Philip and Daniel Barrigan and others in conjunction with additional defense groups representing victims of political repression. Over 350 people were arrested at the event. Button has very slight bit of air at the center but just showing in reflected light. Second item is 3" with peace symbol at top and stylized hand giving the victory symbol at bottom. Text of the button is the famous chant of marching demonstrators "1-2-3-4" with the initials standing for "We Don't Want Your F------ War." The few examples we've seen of this button all have stain probably from use on a rainy demonstration day. This one has stain dots around the reverse edge but only a single tiny dot showing at the very top and one at the far left and far right. Vast majority of the button displays clean and glossy. From the Levin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
