Item numbers 1 through 1144 in auction 209
Item Description
In top row the two smaller are 1" and the large one is 2-1/8" with all other buttons being 1.25". Most have appropriate back papers if issued with one. A highlight is the large button showing fierce wolf baring its fangs issue by "The Wolf Company/Flouring Mill And Power Transmitting Machinery" from the same company as the previous button. Tiny black mark on lower rim edge was dirt now removed. No back paper or name. The 1" buttons include a charming one for "Dixie Boy Shoes" and one featuring rebus design for McKibban Hosiery. Next are three rarities including Burroughs calculating machine. One with Irish theme for "Rosie O'Grady Club, Lancaster, Pa., 1910." Third pictures upright piano titled "The Sterling Pianos Artists' Choice." In row three is scarce button for "Laflin & Rand Infallible Smokeless." Next are baseball pair for "Second Base" and "Third Base". In row four first shows early wooden boat for 1907 "Old Home Week Alexandria, Pa." Next picturing owl and crescent moon is from York, Pa fire company. Third in that row has early 1900s 'humorous' scene of young black boy standing as if urinating through a hole in a tree trunk with a goose on the opposite side which has latched onto his (unseen) penis causing him great consternation. Cello has a couple of small rub marks but remains totally clean. Reverse once had fixed horizontal pin now gone with a standard spring pin in its place. Still displays well. Usually seen as a mirror, rare as a button. In last row is famous amusement ride titled "Ye Olde Mill/Atlantic City." Second names "Yale/Boat Race/Dreamland." Couple of air dots. The final pictures "Musical Leaders/Willow Grove Park 1903." Has some stain at extreme left and lower right but clearly pictured in tiny real photos are "Sousa" at the center surrounded clockwise from the top "Herbert/Clarke/Creatore/Conway/Pinto/Robinson (see button for him in our entertainment section)/Phasey. Portrait of the famous conductor "Conway" is slightly obscured by a few tiny age marks. Other portraits are clear. Except as noted all items are Exc. and display NM to Mint. An outstanding group.
