Item numbers 1 through 1144 in auction 209
Item Description
41x80" three-sheet poster for original 1948 Allied Artists film which starred William Bendix, Claire Trevor, and Charles Bickford. Nice graphics include Bendix as Ruth in Yankee's uniform waving hat to crowd, talking to youngsters w/baseball, w/wife, and showgirls at bottom left. Film was released the same year Ruth died and was an extremely sympathetic portrait following the legendary "Babe" from his troubled childhood to his last heroic day. The film recreated the most memorable highlights of his life intermingled w/actual clips of Ruth himself in action, adding a documentary feel to the picture. Poster was issued in two pieces, w/bottom third being slightly off-center as printed, but graphics/text line up. Poster has horizontal and vertical folds as issued w/wear at fold intersections. Margin edges have scattered dust soiling and handling wear. Scattered color touch-ups to creases. 1.5x2" area of surface paper lift at top right, in "America's Most Beloved Guy!" text. Tape strips along edges of linen poster is mounted on but main image area will mat and frame to Fine appearance. Bright color and great design.
