Auction #209 - Part II
Item numbers 1145 through 2874 in auction 209
Item Description
1.25" superbly colored button used three years later in 1959 by the U.S. Treasury Department as part of "The Peace Patrol" campaign to encourage the purchase of U.S. Savings Stamps. However, this and the following five items are the only examples we know of to come on a 2-7/8x5-1/16" stiff card which includes "The Lone Ranger Official Seal" as well as a copyright notice. Each also includes an accent cloth ribbon and a three dimensional silver luster charm, with these also never having been seen before on these buttons. This and the following five came from the archives of station WXYZ where the Lone Ranger was created by station owner George Trendel and writer Fran Striker, first broadcast Jan. 1933. These six (and only six were found) pieces were discovered in a clean-out of station archives c.1960 when WXYZ needed additional space for television productions. In addition, these carded buttons are pictured in the c.1956 Lone Ranger and Sgt. Preston merchandise catalog offered in the Lone Ranger large items section of this auction, #2282. The card has a couple minor oxidation marks behind the button but otherwise both button and card are Mint. This example includes a covered wagon charm and the printing on the card is in blue. See next five items which include two different scenes, two different card colors and five different charms. Rare. From the archives of Detrioit's WXYZ and obtained by former long-time station employee Jiam DesJardin.
