Auction #209 - Part II
Item numbers 1145 through 2874 in auction 209
Item Description
5” long torpedo shaped decoder of cardboard, wood, paper and metal issued by Post Toasties in 1942 and one of the toughest premiums to find. The torpedo has cardboard body with paper label covering. Removable wood nose and metal fin. Body is marked “Don Winslow Undercover Deputy” and the movable nose includes alphabet and numbers. One side of the fin is dull while the other has bright luster and this is to be used as a “Heliograph” to flash secret messages. Small loss of gold paint from the wooden end cap. End cap is not very snug in the tube but as made. Hollow interior to serve as secret compartment. An extremely rare decoder to be used in conjunction with coded messages given as part of the radio broadcasts.
