Item Description
24x24" rounded wooden frame has been painted by the artist and only adds to the overall image area of 19x19.25". Art is by Christopher Edward "Chris" Mars, an artist and musician, formerly the drummer for seminal alternative rock band The Replacements before launching a solo career. Mars has more or less left music behind to concentrate on his artwork. His painting style (examples of which graced all of his album covers) is marked by nightmarish landscapes and grotesque, distorted figures. He draws inspiration from his older brother's struggle w/schizophrenia. Generally using oils or pastels, he sometimes ventures into other media like acrylic and scratchboard. This painting, "Put It To Rest Machine" is an oil-on-wooden panel painting completed in 2004. Art features a woman and small child or little person working machinery as a skeletal ghost-like being emerges from a bucket. This scene is surrounded by six other grotesque beings and a skeleton in a building doorway. A raised path w/a man looking over the edge is visible in the bkg. Mars has signed his last name at lower right corner. Exc. A truly eerie and fantastical painting.
