Item Description
Vintage original 3x4-7/8" matte finish headshot showing martial arts acting legend Bruce Lee in suit and tie. c. 1965, just prior to his joining the cast of ABC's "The Green Hornet" TV show in the role that broke him onto the scene - Kato. Prior to playing the part of Kato, Lee was a child actor and appeared in several Hong Kong films. At age 18 he moved to the US, where he honed his martial arts skills and began teaching martial arts. While attending college, Lee's interest in drama grew, lighting the fire that gave rise to his acting career. Photo has embossed Hong Kong "Photo Salon" mark w/some text in Chinese. Back of photo has pencil notation as well as "Kato - Bruce Lee" in black ink, indicating this photo was among those given to Greenway Productions Inc. show-runners by either Lee himself or his agent for his consideration for the role that Lee eventually won, first appearing as Kato in the premiere episode "The Silent Gun" on Sept. 9, 1966. Photo is Exc. An early and historic Bruce Lee item, this is essentially Lee's "rookie card." From the archives of Detroit’s WXYZ and obtained by former long-time station employee Jiam DesJardin.
