Item Description
6.25x7" wooden base has 3x6x8-1/8" tall statue depicting John Lennon as he looked in the late 1970s sitting atop a wall that has his distinctive self portrait raised above name plate bearing his incised facsimile signature. Released by Gartlan USA, Inc. ©1998. Piece was commissioned to promote John Lennon's conviction to world peace and was sculpted by Joseph Hoffman, and then cast in museum-grade pewter that includes metal smelt from confiscated guns, further tying into Lennon's peace initiative. The figure was limited to 2,000 produced w/a further limited edition of just 25 being electroplated in 24 karat gold as "President's Proofs" like the one offered here. This is #8 of 25 and has been hand signed on back of base by Gartlan USA president Robert H. Gartlan in gold paint pen and on front by Yoko Ono, who has added "NYC '98" inscription. Backside of base has gold metal plaque w/Gartlan logo and "John Lennon - 8 Of 25 Artist Proofs" text. Comes w/original nondescript cardboard box which shows wear and just comes along. These "President's Proofs" were originally issued at $6,000. Comes w/Gartlan Certificate of Issuance stating that the guns used in making this piece were confiscated by the Upland Department of Police and that the weapons were destroyed and smelt Jan. 22, 1998. Piece also comes w/Gartlan COA w/matching edition number. NM.
