Item Description
Colin Kelly was a World War II B-17 Flying Fortress pilot who flew bombing runs against the Japanese Navy in the first days after Pearl Harbor. He is remembered as one of the first heroes of the war for sacrificing his own life to save his crew, giving them time to bail out when his plane was attacked by Japanese Zeros on Dec. 10, 1941. Poster was printed by McGovern-Anderson Co., Inc. of Minneapolis, MN. and was not issued by the government. This poster was part of a private series to be used by offices and factories. Poster measures 18x24" and features stylized image of pilot w/his hand on the stick as explosions go off around him. Text reads "Colin Kelly - Went Down With His Hand On The Stick - And He Went Down Fighting!" Poster goes on w/further text reading "How's That Grip On That Job Of Yours? Will You Hang On With The Same Determination? Of Course You Will, Because You Are An American, Too." Additional "Buy War Bonds" text at bottom margin. Folded as issued, poster shows lt. corner tip wear and is VF.
