c. early 1930s. 20.75x31” tall folded as issued thick cardboard sign is designed so top portion of sample magazine cover w/criminal handprint can be seen beneath bold text “Thrilling ! Amazing ! True !”. Sign opens at left and right to full size of 41.75” wide. Whole magazine cover is in center w/text on spine “Vol. X- No.10”. Bottom center has text “The World’s Greatest Crimes Revealed ! In True Detective Mysteries Buy It Here Each Month”. Side panels each have four progressive art images. Left side has policeman w/gun drawn in moonlight, man w/bloodhound, Sherlock Holmes type looking at footprint, convict in cell. Right side has gangster wearing mask holding gun, woman lying on floor w/wall shadow of hand holding knife, hand pouring poison in a glass, man being mugged by blackjack. Text at bottom center “ Litho By Sackett & Wilhelms Corp. New York”. Reverse side has unused easel back. Scattered lt. wear around edges, most noticeable at top corner tips which have lt. creases, a few dots of missing color here and there. Blank reverse has aging and moisture marks not affecting front. Overall bright and VG. Extremely limited distribution, likely for windows and counters of larger magazine and book stores. Stunning graphics. First we’ve seen in our 47 years.
